Darren has over 30 years’ experience in residential renovation, project management and with environmental hazard control work.  In his 20-years with City of Lancaster he provided project and program management in a variety of federally funded housing repair programs.  During his tenure there, he estimates helping over 1400 families in making their homes healthier and safe.  Darren’s experience and expertise helped the City of Lancaster secure one of the largest HUD Lead Hazard Control & Healthy Homes grants in the program history.  The “high impact” grant was awarded by HUD in 2019, to the sum of $9.7 million dollars to address 710 homes over five years.  During the start up phase, Darren worked closely with GHHI and his team, to help strategize and market the city’s program.  Upon his departure, his “high impact” grant was the leading program in nation in unit production.  Darren maintains certifications as a Lead Risk Assessor, Supervisor, and the Project Designer for over two decades.  Darren also holds credentials as an ICC Residential Building Inspector and Healthy Homes Practitioner.  Darren provides technical assistance to outside agencies such as non-profit organizations engaged in housing rehabilitation and lead & healthy homes remediation. He has helped write and develop the City of Lancaster’s Lead Ordinances over the years and most recently the newly adopted lead ordinance requiring all rental units have a lead-safe certification.  Darren also helped the City of Lancaster gain accreditation as an EPA, RRP Rule, Renovator, Initial & Refresher provider, where he instructed quarterly trainings for contractors, landlords and property maintenance companies.
