GHHI designates the City of Richmond as a New GHHI Site
The Green & Healthy Homes Initiative (GHHI) is excited to designate the City of Richmond as a new GHHI site in their network of cities, counties, and states who are taking proactive measures to ensure healthy and energy efficient housing is made available to families and children living in underserved communities.
City of Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney signed the GHHI Richmond Compact along with local partners supporting efforts to make the Richmond area a leader in healthy homes. “I am thrilled Richmond has been designated a GHHI site,” said Mayor Levar Stoney. “Healthy homes are vital to improving outcomes for Richmond’s families. This collaborative approach to raising housing standards lays the foundation for a better quality of life for all of our residents.” Other key agencies and signatories on the Compact include: Director of the Richmond City and Henrico County Health Districts Dr. Danny Avula, KC Bleile, Viridiant, Lee Householder, project:HOMES, Malcolm Jones, Rebuilding Together Richmond, Amy Strite, Family Lifeline and Ruth Ann Norton, Green & Healthy Homes Initiative.

Richmond is doing the work and has the vision to work upstream to positively move the Social Determinants of Health for its community through healthier housing. This Compact signifies this great work and leadership of GHHI-Richmond,” says Ruth Ann Norton, President and CEO of the Green & Healthy Homes Initiative. Dr. Danny Avula, Director of the Richmond City and Henrico County Health Department, noted, “The GHHI designation process was an important opportunity to gather local leaders at the intersection of health and housing. We are excited to highlight efforts like this, where the region can accomplish more by acting collectively.”
GHHI Richmond is a comprehensive approach to align health, safety, and weatherization interventions in low income homes in the City. The Compact signing actively engages local and state government, health, housing and other partners that are already conducting work related to green and healthy homes interventions into a coordinated process and will seek innovative funding sources to increase capacity for health and housing services. GHHI Richmond works collaboratively to improve client service delivery to low income families to improve health, educational and social outcomes while also stabilizing communities.
