In October GHHI President and CEO Ruth Ann Norton served on a panel of experts from the housing and health sectors to discuss HUD’s proposed Lead Safe Housing Rule. Earlier, GHHI joined HUD Secretary Julián Castro and Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed at a press conference in Providence, Rhode Island where Secretary Castro announced the newly proposed rule.
In September Maine’s new state lead poisoning prevention law officially became effective–the first of its kind in the country to be implemented on a statewide basis. GHHI Maine joined Maine officials at the groundbreaking press event.
In September, the GHHI team, together with partners from the National Housing Trust and Natural Resources Defense Council, met with the Missouri Energy Efficiency for All Network in Jefferson City and the Minnesota Multifamily Affordable Housing Energy Network (MMAHEN). Part of the Energy Efficiency for All (EEFA) campaign, the meetings advanced network understanding of the nexus of health and energy efficiency with state multifamily housing partners. GHHI also launched the new EEFA Healthy Homes Advisory Group, bringing together healthy homes experts from across the country to help inform and build capacity for integrating healthy housing interventions in multifamily energy efficiency retrofits.

GHHI’s paper Non-Energy Benefits of Energy Efficiency and Weatherization Programs In Multifamily Housing: The Clean Power Plan And Policy Implications, was presented at the ACEEE 2016 Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings, exploring the non-energy benefits of energy efficiency and health interventions in multi-family buildings.
